We take you off the beaten tourist track and lead you down quaint laneways and eclectic streets to experience a cultural side of Sydney that tourists rarely see.
Sydney’s art scene is a thriving and many of our artists are world famous, but we take you to hidden and private galleries so you can immerse yourself in Sydney’s artistic culture through our local eyes – and, with our local expertise.
You can choose to spend a full or a half day with us, visiting galleries in some of Sydney’s most cosmopolitan and trendy inner city suburbs. Either way, you’ll be accompanied by Local Eyes art expert Fiona Macintosh every step of the way.
Fiona is a Sydney art buyer and blogger who loves to share both the traditional and edgy contemporary side of the Sydney art scene. This includes importantly the best indigenous art exhibitions and galleries.
Both the half and full day tours include morning tea at one of our favourite local cafés so you can discuss Sydney’s art, culture and lifestyle with Fiona. If you choose to spend a full day with us, your experience also includes luncheon at the famous Bondi Beach.
The Highlights
Immerse yourself in Indigenous and contemporary art
The galleries we visit vary depending on current exhibits but you’ll always gain personal, knowledgable and fascinating insights into the artworks, artists and places we see.
Both our full and half day tours include an Indigenous art gallery. We also visit private galleries that exhibit a range of contemporary artwork, created by their own stable of artists, including paintings, photography, sculptures, installations and digital media arts.
We’ll spend up to 40 minutes at each of the galleries so you can soak up the ambience, immerse yourself in the art collections and, perhaps even consider a purchase.
You may return to your hotel with a treasured new piece of art in hand, but either way you’ll leave us with memories of a wonderful day immersing yourself in Sydney’s vibrant art scene.
Good To Know
Your Experience is private – for individuals, couples or your group of up to 6 people. Both the half and full day tours include morning tea, entry to all galleries and transport between galleries in our luxury vehicle. The full day tour also includes lunch at one of our favourite cafes.
Your Local Eyes Expert – Fiona Macintosh is a well-known Sydney gallery guide and blogger who has well-honed knowledge of the visual arts scene in Australia and an easy way of talking about it. Fiona provides intriguing insights to Australian art and artists, including Indigenous, contemporary and modernist work as well as sculpture and digital media.
Your Gallery Visits – The galleries we visit vary according to current exhibitions. On the half-day experience you’ll visit 3 galleries and on the full-day experience we visit 4-5 galleries – an Indigenous gallery is included in both tours.
Your Art Purchases – Artworks are available for sale at the galleries we visit and we ensure there’s enough time to consider your purchase with advise from both Fiona and gallery staff. Fiona is able to assist with any inquiries regarding possible purchases.
Your Transfers – We’ll collect you from your Sydney city hotel at 9.30am and drop you back at either 1.30pm or 5.30pm depending on your choice of the half or full day experience.
